Marble, travertine, limestone and other natural stones are beautiful but chemically and physically sensitive. Etching, staining and cracking are the most common complaints.
Common stone problems
Why does my marble floor have dull spots?
Dull spots on marble, limestone and travertine are usually etching: acids from cleaners, drinks or food react with the stone. Sealers reduce staining but don't prevent etching.
Why is my stone floor cracking?
Stone cracks for the same reasons tile does, such as substrate movement, deflection or missing movement joints, plus natural fissures in some stones.
