Luxury vinyl (LVP / LVT) · Curling or lifting edges (glue-down)
Why are the edges of my glue-down vinyl curling up?
Curling edges on glue-down vinyl usually mean the adhesive bond failed, most often from moisture or high pH in the concrete slab, or from the wrong adhesive or open time.
Also searched as: "LVT edges lifting", "glue down vinyl coming loose", "vinyl tile corners curling"
What usually causes it
- Slab moisture or high pH breaking down the adhesive
- Wrong adhesive or trowel
- Heat
What you can check yourself
- Note whether lifting is near exterior walls or on slab areas
What an independent inspection checks
- Moisture content of the flooring and the subfloor, mapped across the room
- Room temperature and relative humidity, and how they change by season
- Concrete slab moisture (ASTM F2170 in-situ RH) when the floor is over concrete
- Concrete pH
- Adhesive and bond observations
Who is responsible?
If required slab testing wasn't done before installation, responsibility often shifts to the installer.
