Laminate · Swelling

Why are my laminate floor edges swelling?

Swollen edges mean water got into the fiberboard core, usually from wet mopping, spills, pet accidents or a leak. The swelling doesn't go back down.

What usually causes it

  • Wet mopping or steam cleaning
  • Spills or leaks
  • Moisture from the subfloor

What you can check yourself

  • Note the cleaning method and any recent leaks

What an independent inspection checks

  • Pattern of swelling
  • Moisture in the subfloor
  • Maintenance against the manufacturer's care guide

Who is responsible?

Water damage from cleaning or leaks is usually excluded from product warranties; subfloor moisture may point to installation.
